A group of party goers set out with a camera to investigate after a woman dies in the apartment beneath the party. They discover items associated with black magic rituals, even the missing tapes from Paranormal Activity 3. When Jesse, discovers a mark on his arm, strange forces pursue him while Jesse’s loved ones attempt to save him.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, the scary series’ first spin-off film, the plot begin at a normal party in Oxnard, California in June 2012. Then, after a woman dies in the apartment below the party, some revelers take their camera (of course) and investigate. They find the sorts of things that accompany black-magic rituals and pictures of one of the partygoers; one partier finds what looks like a bite on his arm when he wakes up and then discovers he has inexplicable powers. Then the horror begins.

The new movie comes across as a blend of the usual Activity tropes, a little of V/H/S and a dash of Chronicle as the marked young man at one point uses his newfound powers to fight off attackers. It also features a much stronger religious theme.

Written and directed by Christopher Landon, and starring Richard Cabral, Carlos Pratts, and Eddie J. Fernandez, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones is the long-awaited latino themed horror entry in the found footage franchise that has grossed well over $500 million to date. It’s the same film teased at the end of Paranormal Activity 4, and now thanks to the trailer we have a much more complete idea of what will be taking place. A group of friends decide to visit the home of a recently deceased neighbor and discover she was involved in something that seems evil.

Littered amongst her possessions are photographs of our leads, which they cannot explain, as well as a box of video tapes containing footage of Katie, the woman at the center of the previous Paranormal Activity films. Not long after this visit, one of the friends begins to experience weird, unexplainable occurrences, and that’s when the trailer essentially becomes a sizzle reel of shaky-yet-scary footage.
